Issued 1731-1769 (Wien; Vienna) by Emrich Felix Bader (after Homann).
Beautiful mid-18th century antique engraved distance chart. Shows distances between major European cities, of great practical use at the time due to the rate for letter sending being based upon distance.
In some ways, an early postal map- note the allegorical god Apollo at left exchanging a letter with the seated goddess. Letter rates in Europe at this time were based upon distance, thus this chart would be useful in a practical way. Cherubs, strapwork cartouche and a globe combine with a strong diagonal angle to create visual impact.
Light uniform paper age toning, original fold lines, repaired tear near left middle inset tab- remaining clean - a pleasing and well preserved visual example. Video captures condition.
Sheet measures c. 18 1/4" x 21 3/4".
Printed area measures c. 17 3/4" x 21".
