Rick Felkel here, with Elloree Guitars. In my never ending attempt at fighting boredom, building something I've never built before, and using the woods that are too small for guitars, here's my newest offering. For those of us who tap our foot while we play our guitar, this might be something you want. I have seen other things out there similar to this, and I'm not going to try to make the claim that mine is better than somebody else's. But let me tell you about it. It is all wood construction. I don't use metal, and I don't use high impact plastic that is posing as wood. This is the same wood I use on all of my instruments. Well, except for the plywood base. The base is always going to be plywood. We're going to have our foot on this thing, and we're going to be tapping, or stomping, or whatever, and I never want it to break. Now the place where your heel and toe rest are both high quality straight grain wood. I'm building this to be easy to work with. I have severely sealed the end grain of this hardwood so that it will not crack. Also, I have applied a clear finish. And then, on one half of the area where you will tap your toe, I have glued a piece of felt. You can tap your toe on the felt side for a softer bass response, or you can tap your toe on the bare wood side for a sharper response. Also, you can put effects pedals in the line, so that you can add some funk and groove to your toe tapping. This stomp box, that I am dubbing "The Beat", has a quarter inch input jack. It is 8" wide by 16" long, and has a very low profile, so you don't have to jack your leg up too high to get your foot on it. It is equipped with 2 piezo pick-ups that are the same kind I use in all of my acoustic instruments that are wired. This particular one has maple, but I am liable for using any of the hardwoods you see on the "Options" page of my web site. It just depends on what I have available. And then, for those of you who might want "The Beat" to be personalized for you, my son-in-law burns images into wood for me. If you have something in mind, let us know what image you would like to have burned, and we can quote you a price. "The Beat" can be had for 5, and that includes shipping to anywhere in the continental US. You can take 3 days to try it out and see if it suits your need. If you are unhappy with it within that 3 day period, you can pay the shipping to send it back to me in unharmed condition, and I will refund your full purchase price.
