Nico Bolas: Avarice, Deceit, and Domination
True to the personal style of its commander, this deck is a truly nasty and manipulative pile of trouble. It will become your opponent’s worst nightmare as everything they cast is stolen, used against them, and sacrificed for your benefit only to be returned from the grave; under
your
control, of course.
The key to this deck is in the outlets for sacrificing creatures (marked with *). Once you have a couple of those in play, the “fun” begins. Take control of an opponent’s creature with any of the numerous spells for doing so (Traitorous Blood, Captivating Crew, etc.). If you can, have a few damaging spells like Impact Tremors or Purphoros to add extra sting to the effect. During combat, hit your opponent with their own creature and don’t worry about blockers; that creature is coming back to you eventually anyway. If the creature is still under your control after combat, sacrifice it using Miren or Ashnod’s Altar to regain life or mana. Later, use Rise from the Grave or the commander’s (-4) planeswalker ability to return that creature to your control from its owner’s grave.
If you haven’t already guessed, this is a VERY aggressive deck once things get rolling. As such, don’t be surprised if you quickly wind up with a target on your back. But that’s okay: More creatures to plunder and abuse.
